“TITZ BITZ APRIL ‘92 - ‘93”

When Headspin asked if I wanted to be the next GM (and the first splitbum GM), I initially thought it was just another of his jokes so said OK and played along with it.

However about a week before the AGM, I realised he was in fact serious and it was too late for any second thoughts. Which is just as well, as I can honestly say that my term as GM of Norwest is one of the best times I have ever had.

Some brief highlights during this time:

It rained for 49 out of 52 Tuesday evenings

A big Norwest crew travelling to Marlborough HHH (including the infamous “van in the back of Scruffy’s truck from Wellington to Auckland” trip). Those who stayed at Springcreek holiday park will recall how Bruiser became known as “Bedpan Bruiser”

Blooz Brothers run dedicated to Compost

A few quiet winter nites when a dozen or so Norwesters were at Interhash in Phuket

The wettest ON ON ever held in the confined space of Bridle’s carport at Spargo Rd Massey

GM’s ball at Sorrento

Not being thrown into the swimming pool at Sapich Brothers AND Mr Meat cooking a Hangi that was ready to eat before midnight!

The hash dogs (Jessie and Rex) coming along to lots of runs

250th Christmas run and party at Asea Brown Boveri — “cum as your name” theme ... some great costumes and interpretations of hash names

The first Christmas holiday (and hash runs) at Some Mothers & Mummy’s WhanaruaBay hideaway “Rendezvous on the Coast”

Headspin’s “Rosebank Rd Marathon” ... the run that went on and on and on and on and still no sign of Scruffy with his truck

The first “Riverhead Ramble” (was the 3rd Norwest away weekend held at the old forest HQ in Riverhead)

Coast to Coast run from one side of Te Atatu North to the other

The Huapai pub burning down 2 weeks before the AGM we had organised to have there!

Handing over to another redhead to make it 3 in a row

My own personal high-points include putting Rigor on ice, Omo becoming known as “Mistress Mintie”, Sharpie & Some Mothers playing silly games with the Run of the Year trophy and best of all, knowing the secret recipe for Mortician and making some for the AGM!!

Along the way some strong and lasting friendships were forged. Whilst you can’t please everybody all of the time, there was still a great hash club going strong at the end of the term!!! On reflection, a GM is only as effective as their committee and I thank the committee of 92-93 for their support, hard work and effort.

Titz
