          1990-1991

I reckon Some Mothers made me GM because I had a car that could tow the hash trailer. My committee was JM’s - Sharpie & Scruffy, Hash Cash - Ebony, Scribe -Mummy, Trailmasters - Scrubba & Petal and the most important person of all - Hard to Port as Brewmaster. It took me a couple or three weeks to settle into the GM mode, my trusty green folder being with me always on hash nights (just look at the photos).

NorWest grew rapidly while I was GM - numbers peaked at around 70. This was a little hard on the catering but we always managed a decent feed.

Trashes were Mummy’s job but I had to step in and ban Silvertongue from writing them because he upset too many people with his unique brand of humour. We had a number of Purple Death runs from Sapich Brothers - these were always a success. Food was usually spits and hangis (Mr Meat got it right back then!). The swimming pool was another plus - most people went in whether they wanted to or not, Groper dumped me in it but I managed to take him with me. I learnt always to carry a spare, spare set of clothes.

It was around about here people started to notice that I hadn’t fined Claytons and I didn’t until my last night, my reason being who wants to fine an arsehole every week.

1, 2, 3 run from Parakai - This was a patch run and it represented the GM’s -Butcher No. 1, Some Mothers No. 2 and Metal Mickey No. 3. It was a big turnout and another great night only to be marred by a number of cars being broken into. We decided to hold a Christmas function at the Old Waimauku Dairy Factory, it was rather primitive then, no fancy stuff. Seating was hay bales but it made for an excellent night. The 90 odd who turned up really enjoyed themselves. I played Santa and presented everyone with a NorWest pottery mug (Who still has one?) (I do-Ed.)

Christmas Day fell on our hash night. This was also our run so we asked everyone to bring their leftovers along and hash supplied the keg. The run was very short, the keg went too, on the boys trolley - got a bit shook up but no one minded.

150th run from Riverhead before it became the Riverhead Ramble. This was my finest hour, just ask those who went. Long runs, continuous games like the Waikato Tug-O-War machine brought up by Hamtilon H3, catered dinner and gourmet breakfast and heaps of piss.

The year came to an end all too quickly. The AGM was held at the Huapai Pub where I handed it all over to Headspin and Silvertongue got to write the last trash for my year. Looking back and writing down just a bit of what happened way back then I really enjoyed myself and a special thanks to my committee. Without them all this and much more would not have happened.
